Summer is icomen in, loude sing cuckoo, as the old poets would have it. No cuckoos round my way, just belligerent herring gulls, but we can imagine!
Splendid stuff for June – Scratch Tyne on Sunday 17 June will feature a buffet of poetic morsels, with a sweet desert of live music from singer-songwriter Meghann Clancy, and I think we should have a Pimms bar as well, don’t you? Come along and catch some words before we hit a summer recess!
Scratch Tees on Sunday 24 June will once again bring you a select band of poets in the very pleasant surroundings of mima’s café, this month with guest performer Aidan Clarke.
And of course, all at Apples and ARC are extremely excited to be revving up for the regional finals of our national youth slam project, Shake the Dust. If you’re interested to see what happens when teams of 13-16 year olds write and perform their own competition poetry, come along to ARC on Saturday 16 June. There will be a special guest performance from spoken word artist Maxwell Golden, so all in all well worth it!
In other news – Middlesbrough Lit Fest brings you all kinds of word-based joy, including spoken offerings and workshops – more on that at the end of newsletter. Teesside’s fair fizzing with new opportunities to catch poets in action, skip to the bottom for more info on Laid Bare in Hartlepool, and events at Elliot’s Coffee Lounge.
Sweet!
